A few things I copped during our Asian adventure.
Our little Halloween shindig at The Upstairs last week was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who came out and drank jugs of Witches Brew and danced to the Frankenweenie soundtrack. I had a lot of fun that night, but not so much fun the next morning at work. Erlack!
The winner of the R2000 Lola Malone’s tattoo voucher was none other than Hunter S Thompson/ Raoul Duke himself. Congrats ol’ chap.
Here are some pics, that got progressively blurry as the night went on.
PS: Big thanks to the Weatherman for adding to the evening’s Spook Appeal.
So Halloween is possibly my most bestest day of the year.I love things spooky, I love my childhood memories of trick or treating and I love dressing up in silly outfits!
Therefore, my martians and goblins ( Yes Lil’ Wayne, that includes you too) , you are all obliged to make me happy and come for a party at The Upstairs.
We’re throwing a ghoulish Halloween Ball and giving away a R2000 Tattoo Voucher from Lola Malone for Best Dressed!
There will also be prizes for best make-up, and spot prizes through-out the evening for all the fearless freaks….
We’re conjuring up a twisted Sailor Jerry Halloween PUNCH and will have disgustingly rad trick or treat bar “specials” for who those who are daring……
Entry is Free, but if you’re a party pooper the Grim Reaper will tax you 50 bucks!!!!
If you’re looking for some outfit inspiration then check out my post on A Fashion Friend for some scary ideas here. ( Think Amanda Bynes in a blonde wig scary!)
You can RSVP to the event right here, too!
Third installment of Sup Durban up on Durban Is Yours.
So, out of the 11 tattoo’s that I have, only four involved a planning session. The rest (and my favourites ) are all spontaneous little inky marks on my body.
However, I seem to have gotten caught up in planning my next tattoo.Generally I don’t try and find tattoo’s that include obscurely symbolic images.I chose what I think is pretty, which may be foolish, but I am not going to force out a deep heavy meaning, just because it’s a tattoo.
So this next one is going to be a bit of both- pretty and meaningful.
I want to get the word “CREATE” tattooed with antlers framing it. The word and concept of create/creation rocks my world. Basically it is our job as beings to create,to make something out of nothing and to use our talents no matter how big or small. We have to ability to make something from scratch, whether it is reflected in art, photography, blogging ,a business,a career or a family. We have the chance to start with nothing and create something, unique and personal. To build on what our ancestors have left behind.
The antlers are for the following reasons (In order of importance):
1. They look freaking sweet ass.
2. Deer can lose antlers and regrow them. These beautiful, individual horns can start from nothing and grow into these intricate bone structures. Not only once, but time and time again. They are a symbol of power and an affirmation of ability.
3.They look freaking sweet ass.
For the font,I want something structured :
I dig the font used on “Dirty Beaches”
And on “daydream”
Booking for the end of the month and need to decide on placement.
As most of my tattoos are small and discreet,I have been dabbling in the idea of getting it on the inside of my arm or somewhere more subtle like ribs or foot. This worry lead to a disturbing dream that I got Foghorn Leghorn (animated rooster) wearing high heels,as a full colour half sleeve that I couldn’t escape.

My beautiful cousin Rochelle and her wonderful husband Richard, both have blogs that I feel the whole wide world should know about.
Both Durban born, this amazing couple got married on a cold day under rows of trees at the Botanical Gardens and left for a life in Hong Kong.
I can only aspire to the talent they both have for photography and proudly show off my wrist tattoo done by Rich. Not only do I admire them as a couple but as individuals rocking their unique style, travels, crazy dog and general antics in the deep of Hong Kong.

“Tattooing, clothing and generally just cool stuff”

“Inspired by the 1950’s Rockabilly movement, Lola Malone is a unique “chopping & shopping” concept combining tattooing, clothing and a love for things retrospect, all under one roof. ”
Lola Malone is probably one of the best examples of the innovative and trendy concepts emerging from Durban as of late. LM goes far beyond the general stigmas of tattoo parlors and has morphed into a brand and a social spot.
After Lady Lola’s relaunch last year, the store has simply and undoubtedly gone from strength to strength. Lola’s saw the arrival of a group of enigmatic and skilled staff as well as quality tattoo’s leaving the shop.
Personally, out of all of the places around the world and country that I have been inked, Lola’s is the friendliest and cleanest chop shop to walk into. Anyone is welcome and respected which is sometimes a rare feat for a tattoo bar. LM proudly breaks these stigma’s of the tattooing world and offers a vibe that is unique and authentic.
If you aren’t thinking about inking just yet, then head this way if you are simply thinking about drinking instead. LM hosts some rad evenings of late night shopping and chopping and well as musical performances for all to enjoy. LM events have been linked to local likes of Catlike Thieves ,Asleep in Transit and Watershed. If the fun gigs are still not enough for you, then swing by to check out the original brands that Lola stocks. Not only do they boast their own line of clothing ,but LM tends to house out-of-the-box brands that aren’t easy to come by in the 031.
Lola Malone has undeniably begun to cement itself in the Durban scene. LM is featuring not only as a social spot, brand and respected tattoo parlor ,but as a force to be reckoned with.
